90-Day Goal: Day 18: It’s Doable

Are you feeling like the goal you set is a pretty hefty climb? Don’t worry—that can be a good thing. A well articulated 90-Day Goal should be aspirational. You set out on this journey and undertook this accountability to life design together because that goal is hard and worth fighting for in your life.

Let’s just make sure that the goal isn’t so challenging it is out of reach. The A in SMART goals stands for one that is Attainable. For example, let’s take the goal one of you shared with me that you would like to illustrate and publish a children’s book. What a beautiful goal that will certainly bring joy to many!

However, starting at ground zero without a story and no sketches makes having a book on the shelves of Barnes and Noble in 90 days not likely. It’s not impossible, but there are many parts that are simply beyond any one person’s control.

In order to stay motivated and celebrate crushing the goal, it should be something that is attainable. The goal should be mostly within both your control and ability to influence so that your energy, attention and gusto will get you over the finish line. If the goal is so far out of reach then you are likely to give up the first time a progress or milestone is missed.

Tip 18: It’s Doable!

If your 90-Day Goal seems impossible here in week three, then reassess and right size it for the life you are living. Be careful not to swing the other extreme with a goal that is so easy it doesn’t require anything special from you to achieve.

Rather, feel free to consider whether or not the goal you stated would be better broken into two parts. Tackle the first part or half in the first 90 days.  Then use what you learned to set your next SMART 90-Day Goal to complete the bigger goal you started with at the beginning.

Breaking goals down into doable, attainable pieces is a key to success and a smart way to approach goal setting.

Please send me your questions, challenges, and suggestions as we continue in the 90-Day Goal Together. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing the journey with you.
